By comparison with the thought that's been given to Period 8 (see "Extended Periodic Table", Wikipedia) all higher periods are uncharted territory. Atomic theory breaks down at the very beginning of this period. Nuclear shape as well as size is likely to become important. Any description of periods 9 through 11 should be viewed with caution.

Structure[]

Periods 6 and 7 both contain: a.) an alkali metal (very active metal), b.)an alkaline earth metal (active metal), c.) an f block (14 acive metals), d) a d block (10 quiet metals), e.) a p block (five aloof metals), and an inert fluid.

Electrons start misbehaving once you get to Period 8. Periodic details begin to blur. Two 9s and two 9p1/2 electrons mix in with the main period 8 electrons. The g block grows to 22 elements, so that period 8 ends at 172 rather than 168, which an 18-element g block would cause.

Period 9 is likely to mimic Period 8. The big features are all that remains: very active metal, active metals, quiet metals, aloof metals, and an inert fluid. Its g block should also be 22 elements long, putting the period's endpoint at Z = 226.

Period 10 will contain an h block with 22 electrons. Adding four electrons, as in periods 8 & 9 gives a band width of 26 electrons. But, this far up the Z axis, d3/2 or p3/2 electrons might start to occupy n+1 states. to add as many as 10 additional electrons to the block. That would be a total width of 36, which leads to Z = 316 as the end of period 10.

The final element should be around Z = 324. (See The Final Element.) Beyond that, a nuclear drop sprays neutrons until it explodes - a process that takes less than 1/1000 the time needed (on average) for a nucleus to grab an electron and become an element.
